Oh COME ON!... 3 bad years after 25 great years and then Yzerman as your GM to turn things around....I'll take it!

Did I miss the part about switching conferences? The East and West have very different styles of play with Western Conference teams being a more open, free skating, style of play and the East being more defense and hitting oriented. I'm sure that being built for success in the West, and suddenly having to play in the East, didn't help them.

I got over 25 years of awesome entertainment from Watching the Red Wings. All dynasties come of an end sooner or later. I was under no illusion it would last for ever. I started watching in 1991 and around 1995 I realized I was seeing something special. I started watching every game I could. During the 1995 playoffs My girlfriend dumped me because I'd rather stay home to watch the game. 1997 1998 2002 2008 I watched almost every game those seasons. I saw it all from Roy getting blown out in Montreal to the bloodbath at the Joe. Many of the Wings best players I watched their entire careers. The best thing I saw was the Russian 5.

Still, growing up as a red wings fan in Michigan I watched them make the playoffs every year of my life until I was 17 years old, not many fans of a sports team get to experience that, the end of the dynasty was inevitable and I hate how quickly red wings fans forget about the 25 years of postseason glory and act like they're the worst team ever just because they finally have to rebuild, something every sports team has to do

I remember in 09 something about a lidstrom lacerated onion from a spear from one of the blackhawks and Brad Stewart giving away the puck in front of his own net for a goal in game six
Cindy Crosby did nothing in the series because zeterberg shut him down yet he said zeterberg sucked and was only good because of lidstrom. Those are my memories of 09

He's got veterans on defense. But also a few young defensemen. It will be interesting to see who stays and who doesn't. Holland liked to fill in spots with forwards being signed from free agents around the league. Will Yzerman let the young forwards they've drafted a chance to play for the Red Wings? Will the new GM be able to make any changes in draft choices, through trades? It will be an interesting time between now and the start of the 2019/2020 season.
